From my own experience, here is what I think are the drawbacks of studying overseas:

1. cost, depends on the country you want to go, the associate cost is always going to be higher then if you stay home. However, if you analyze the cost, you also need to analyze the cost benefit of studying oversea. So far from what I have seen, the ROI (return of investment) of studying oversea has always been positive. So, this may not be such a drawback in a long term.

2. if you pick a school that is not in the metropolitan area, keep this in mind, your flexibility of getting around is greatly reduced if you don't have your own vehicle. Take US for an example, your life style in Taiwan will not be applicable to what you will be experiencing. In most case, you can't even get to a grocery store without driving for 10 minutes. Also plan your worst case scenario.

Bottom-line, if cash is not a concern, there is no drawbacks, only challenges.

=================================================

Just from my personal experience...

Pros of living on campus: get to social allot and sink into the culture, no need to commute,

Cons of living on campus: depends on the kind of dorm, it may not be as quiet as you wish and dealing with roommate may require some effort.

=================================================

Simple put, a career is long term planning and job is part of career. Say I want to build a career in IT profession, my current job is a java engineer. Or say I want to build a career in politic and my job now is the county console man.

Let me take a stab at this:

★what's the difference between a job and a career

1. Major drawbacks: studying overseas can really drain your bank account, which is already mentioned in earlier.

2.
Pros:
=No need to get a car
=No need to find parking
=No need to buy car insurance
=Basically all the stuff related to car---no need (that can save you some money)
=Get to meet a lot of friends (normal and weird people)
=Easy access to classrooms (assuming your dorm is close to campus or on campus)

Cons:
=Usually have to share a room (size about 12"x12") with 2 or 3 people.
=Dorms can be noisy at time (or all the time)
=Dorm food can be disgusting if you don't already like burger and fries
=Expensive compared to living off-campus (yeah i am serious, it's true in California)

3. Difference between a job and a career
In terms of duration, a job can be short-term, but a career is usually long-term (or at least most of us like it to be long-term ). A job is not as serious as a career. You work a job to maybe make some quick money or to past time (or whatever reasons that are more casual). A career usually has something to do with your goals in life, your dreams, or your ambitioins.
