澳洲最普遍的語言是澳洲英語(Australian English)。英語在從第一代英國移民到來後,就是澳洲最通用語言,而澳洲英語帶有了濃厚的地方特色,成為英語中的獨特方言,所以很多人到澳洲都很難適應。Buzzfeed特別整理出24個澳洲人獨一無二的用法,有些是Aussie獨創的詞彙,有些則可能和你平常用的英文有著截然不同的意思喔,現在就來看看吧!

1.maggot

原:(n.)蛆

(adj.)爛醉的

A term (in Australia) that refers to alcoholic intoxication, but specifically to a level of drunkeness that includes loss of co-ordination, vomiting and soiling yourself.

“I drank so much last night! I was fucking maggot!”

2.durry
(n.)香菸
Slang term for cigarettes, commonly heard in Western Sydney.
“Bum a durry?”

3.gubbah
(n.)白人
Aboriginal English; White person
“He’s a gubbah.”

4.uey
(n.)迴轉
Short for U turn. A “U-TURN" is a car turning around 180º making the shape of a “U"
“I got my car stuck on the railroad tracks making a uey.”

5.cunt
原:罵人的粗話
(n.)人
It has almost replaced the word ‘mate’, often used in Australia to refer to people in a conversation when they can’t be bothered trying to remember your name.
“G’day, cunt.”

6.sickcunt
(n.)好人;值得尊敬的人
A term generally describing their respect for another. Most commonly used by Australians and stereotypically by Ethnic-Australians.
“She’s a total sickcunt!”

7.mad cunt
(n.)最好的人
“You are the maddest cunt out!”

8.rellos
(n.)家人/親戚
“Seeing the rellos this weekend.”

9.jillawa
(n.)廁所
Aboriginal English(east coast);Toilet:
“Going to the jillawa!”

10.ranga
(n.)紅頭髮的人
“That ranga is killing it.”
killing it:形容很厲害

11.bush-doof
(n.)野外(特別在有灌木叢的地方)派對
“Did you go to that bush-doof over the weekend?”

12.devvo
(adj.)很震驚的
Devastated. Add more v’s to show increasing levels of devastation.
: Ah, so it turns out the number this chick gave me was fake.
: Oh, so devvo!
: She was SO hot.
: Devvvvvvo!

13.sanger
(n.)三明治
“Pass me a sanger, Shazza!”

14.servo
(n.)加油站
“Went to the servo and got some durries.”

15.sarvo
(n.)今天中午
“Grab a beer sarvo?”

16.youse
(pron.)你(複數)
“Love youse bastard.”

17.mozzie
(n.)蚊子
“Bloody mozzies everywhere ’round ‘ere!”

18.budju
(n.)原住民常用,形容很性感的人
“He’s such a budju.”

19.doona
(n.)羽絨被
“Stop hogging the doona!”

20.bumfloss
(n.)丁字褲

21.gammon
(n.)原住民常用,形容謊話;開玩笑
“Just gammon, I’ll pick you up.”

22.fuclenoath
(interj.)全然同意
“Fuckenoath, it’s rude to swear.”

23.dardy
(adj.)最好的
“This is dardy, budda!”
