In responding to your question about English in my career;
My first job was in an airway company as a coordinator between the branches and the head quarter. English was the only way to communicate with my co-workers.
My second job was a secretary to the high administration in a big private enterprise. I had to write English letters for the executive, and do the translation in the papers as well. I also had to contact many foreign clients.
Now I am in the public service unit. English is less important now. But I have much more time to learn more sophiscated English.
Every winter, I may go to the USA for my vacation about 2-4 weeks. That's the time for me to practice my colloquial conversation with the native speakers.
Also taking chances as a part time job, I would do the translation for the cable TV subtitle from English to Chinese.
Speaking and listening may not be my strength though, I will keep on learning.
I did not take TOEIC before. I only took the tests of the old TOEFL and GEPT( 全民英檢). It's a requirement for me for the jobs.
