"non-identical twins" is ok. We may say "fraternal twins" or "dizygotic twins" as well.

Good to know... Dizygotic - The correct term for "fraternal twins": that is, those who develop out of two different fertilised egg-cells, and therefore share 50% of the same GENES. On the other hand, MONOZYGOTIC twins share 100% of the same genes. For this reason, many psychologists have taken advantage of twin studies in order to gain some indication of whether certain disorders, such as SCHIZOPHRENIA or depression, have a genetic or environmental cause. Castor and Pollux (Heavenly Twins/Gemini)雙子座 In ancient Greek and Roman stories, two brothers who were twins (=two children born at the same time), and who had many adventures. The group of stars known as Gemini or the Heavenly Twins is named after them. Conjoined twins連體嬰 One of two people who are physically joined at birth. The more usual word is Siamese twin.

Guys, if you're ever gonna talk with native English speakers and you say di-zygotic, they'll think you're psychotic because they simply don't understand what you're saying. On the otherhand, 'fraternal twins' would be much more understandable. I speak English myself, so I know. Back when I took Biology in high school in Canada, I learned that a zygote is a fusion between the mother egg cell and the sperm cell. The zygote develops into an embryo, which transforms into the fetus. Guys, English need not be so complicated and technical...

"Psychotic" is so strong of a word and is way too exaggerated. It's true that people who aren't medical or bio majored may not know this word, but saying it won't make you a freak. I can only imagine they'll give off a “aww....”.
For all I know, some people don't even know “Homo sapiens”. It's on a tv show and the host was interviewing this beautiful blond girl on a street in LA. The question was “Name one person who is Homo sapiens” and she answered “Richard Simmons”.
"Dizygotic" isn't a good choice for day-to-day converstion, but bear in mind that ECT isn't a "colloquial English only" website -- we have professionals here too -- including Medical.

diyang, nothing could be more serious than a little rhyming between zygotic and psychotic, with pun intended.

Ok! thanks to your pun and hence humor, otherwise I would guess you must have mistaken your friends. To be your friends, they must be well educated and cultured, I guess. So it’s unbelievable that they would think others psychotic simply because they don’t understand some words said by others!! Not only at ECT, English is absolutely more than just a spoken language almost everywhere. Do you think so?

Ruke, love it or hate it, I'm here to help those who may benefit from my advice. When I deem appropriate, I talk matter-of-factly from my experiences about particular usages. I really think that if someone wants to learn English, he or she might as well speak it the way understandable to natives. You are very welcome to say 'zygotic' everytime for all I care, but I've cautioned people to stay away from such usages unless it's for the really technical reports. I have friends from all over the world. So, ruke, to be my friend is very simple, and what's required is that quality of tolerance and the ability to look over the unnecessary small details for the bigger picture. By the way, if you come over to me and say zygotic, I'll compliment on your wealth of knowledge, but I'll nicely let you know that people usually don't talk this way. I wouldn't insult anybody. take notice that when I use humour( such as a rhyme ), I don't direct it to anybody. cheers everyone
