Kmer, "A is replaced by B" is the opposite of "A is substituted for B." You may have wanted to say "B is substituted for A." Yeah, you can say "substituted by."

*A is substituted for B
*B is substituted with A
*B is substituted by A.

People substitute A for B → A is substituted for B
People substitute B with A. → B is substituted with A
People substitute B by A. or A substitutes B → B is substituted by A.
另外,substitute也可當不及物動詞, → A substitutes for B.

A is substituted in a game,無法知道到底是A被換掉,還是用A來換掉別人。
Beckham was substituted in the second half。
Beckham was substituted in the second half after a knee injury →

Ruke, I know you're good with your research, but I'm gonna say again that "A is replaced by B" is the opposite of "A is substituted for B." "A is replaced by B" means that A is gone now, and "A is substituted for B" means A comes in and B is out. If you said "B is substituted for A," then it would be the same as "A is replaced by B." Also, it's ok to say "substituted by."

Peter:
I am afraid you are mistaken about my previous post. I was just trying to explain some more to the questioner or readers here. God knows my remarks were not directed to what you said at all. Actually your explanation is right, and mine does not contradict yours. If you read my previous post again, I think you would agree with what I am saying now.

Ruke, man, I'm always showered with embarrassment after I regain my consciousness. I misread your post, indeed, and without me tipping off, you would have drawn the conclusion that I'm not really good at reading Chinese. My Grandpa started teaching me Chinese himself when I was close to seven years old, so before that time I spoke only English and some Taiwanese(the only way to link myself with Grandma). My Mandarin is actually pretty good now(my friends told me, hehe), but I'm still apt to make errors in some ways. thank you and sorry

Peter:
That's ok. It does not matter what your Chinese level is. We all know you are excellent in English, and this is helpful enough. People here are to learn English instead of Chinese, and sure, I am no exception. Though I like to share what I know about English with members, I more love to learn English from members here. DJ knows that, and you can ask him if you don't believe (just kidding).
Actually I do have learned some English from you. But you know sometimes I love the truth more than something else. So as you can see, I would at times seriously discuss thins in the forum. If when you are involved in certain threads I am discussing, I hope you know I don't mean to direct anything at you but just at the discussion itself.
Best regards.

What about their meanings? Can "substitute" and "replace" be used interchangeably? My "English 6th sense" tells me there is some small difference between the two eventhough they both mean "something taking the place of something else". My feeling is that "substitute" is used if something whose place is taken has a higher chance of returning back to its place, while "replace" is used if its chance of returning is small. Usually, I think when something is replaced, it's just gone, not coming back. Yeah, that's why I always wanted a "replacement teacher" for my high school English class, not just a "substitute" teacher. Anyway, do correct me if I am wrong.

You can say that again.

Though "substitute" and "replace" share some meaning, the difference between them is virtually not small, I think. And most of the time, they can't be used interchangeably.

例如:Beckham was substituted in the second half。
